LAL BAGH METHODIST CHURCH

Lal Bagh Methodist Church is one of the most beautiful and historical Churches of Lucknow, which comes under the Lucknow Regional Conference of the MCI

It was William Butler, the man who started Methodism in India,, started English services in Lucknow in 1858 It was in 1870 that the congregation was formed

In 1875 when Roy J.H. Messmore was the Pastor the construction of the Church building began and it was dedicated in 1877 by Rev.J. M. Thoburn. The parsonage was built in 1894.

While Rev. E Stanley Jones was the Pastor (1908 - 1910) the Duncan White institute was added to accommodate Sunday school classes and other small group activities

The church has had some outstanding Pastors tour of them Rev. J. M. Thoburn, Rev. J. M. Robinson, Rev. J. M. Pickett and Rev James Nathan became Bishops. Rev. Stanley Jones was also elected to the office of Bishop but pronounced it to serve as a World Evangelist. His very first appointment in India was at Lal Bagh Methodist Church.

The first national Pastor was Rev. William G. Jeffroy who served between 1942 and 1944 but after that the Church returned to having expatriate Pastors right upto 1972. After that since 1974 the Church is under the guidance of Indian Pastors.

At present the Lal Bagh Methodist Church is doing very well under the leadership of its Pastor Rev. A. J. Maxton.

Lal Bagh Methodist Church has active MYF, WSCS and Sunday School which organize various activities from time to time. The Church currently has a total membership of over 300 members including the children.

Today Lal Bagh Methodist Church is standing in its full pristine glory and by the grace of God it will shine and prosper in many years to come.

OUR DUTIES

  • To be loyal to the Lal Bagh Methodist Church.
  • To give willingly for a new member of the weaker Churches through benevolence.
  • It is important for a new member to bring a letter of transfer from his previous Church
  • Dates and times for marriages should be fixed in consultation with the Pastor.
  • A member who is absent for six months or fails to pay regular contribution/ tithes to his Church will be considered Inactive. An inactive member shall have no Church privileges.
  • Tithes should be brought to the Church.
  • Christenings and Baptisms will be performed in the Church only. Full attendance in confirmation classes is necessary.
  • The Youth of the Church should actively involve themselves in the life and mission of the Church.
  • Children should be brought to the Church Sunday school regularly.
